Cookeville Boosts First LEED Commercial Site

(Herald Citizen 3-15-09) The Times Square retail development on South Willow Avenue recently became the first commercial building in Cookeville to achieve LEED Silver certification under the core and shell pilot program. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The program encourages buildings to adopt holistic, "green" practices by reducing energy and water use, using recycled content, having a smaller environmental impact and providing a healthy indoor environment. All of the concrete in the driveway and in the building itself contains a high level of fly ash.
